Biography
Hal Linden is an American stage and screen actor, television director, and musician. He was born Harold Lipshitz on March 20, 1931, in the Bronx. Linden's father is Charles Lipshitz and his mother is Frances Rosen. His older brother is a professor of music at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Linden took up classical clarinet in his late teens and played regularly with symphony orchestras. He graduated from the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan and studied music at Queens College.
