Gillian Leigh Anderson OBE, born August 9, 1968, in Chicago, is an American actress known for her role as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in the Fox science fiction series The X-Files, which aired from 1993 to 2002 and returned from 2016 to 2018. She won a Golden Globe Award for this performance. Anderson also starred in the film The House of Mirth and portrayed DSI Stella Gibson in the BBC/RTÉ crime drama The Fall. Her other notable roles include Jean Milburn in the Netflix series Sex Education and Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of The Crown. She has received multiple awards, including two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. Anderson was raised in London and later in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
