Biography

Frances Bavier was an American stage and television actress. She originated from New York theatre and worked in film and television from the 1950s. Bavier is best known for her role on The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry R.F.D. from 1960-1970. She won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Comedy Actress in 1967. Bavier had roles in more than a dozen films and played a range of supporting roles on television. She appeared as Mrs. Barley in the 1951 film The Day the Earth Stood Still.
