She is credited with ninety‑seven acting roles and is also listed under the alternate names Cherie Mary Lunghi and Cheri. Lunghi is perhaps best known for portraying Guinevere in the 1981 film Excalibur and for playing football manageress Gabriella Benson in the 1990s television series The Manageress. She appeared in a series of television advertisements for Kenco coffee and competed in the 2008 series of Strictly Come Dancing. She is the mother of actress Nathalie Lunghi.
