Carl Winston Lumbly is an American actor born on August 14, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Known for his acting work across film and television, he has accumulated one hundred eleven known credits on The Movie Database. Among his noted television and film roles, he has portrayed television's first black superhero in M.A.N.T.I.S., Dick Hallorann in Doctor Sleep, and NYPD detective Marcus Petrie on the CBS police drama Cagney and Lacey. He also played CIA agent Marcus Dixon on the ABC espionage drama series Alias and portrayed M'yrnn, the father of J'onn J'onnz, on The CW's Supergirl from 2017 until 2019. Additionally, he plays Isaiah Bradley, the first Black super-soldier, and provided voice work for J'onn J'onnz / Martian Manhunter in animated series.
