Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch, born July 19, 1976, is an English actor known for his work in film, television, and theatre. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series Sherlock, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award and a British Academy Television Award. Cumberbatch also received a Laurence Olivier Award for his stage performance in Frankenstein. His film roles include Alan Turing in The Imitation Game and Phil Burbank in The Power of the Dog, both earning him major award nominations, including Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. He has also appeared as Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
