Anika Noni Rose is an American actress born on September 6, 1972, in Bloomfield, Connecticut. She is best known for voicing Tiana in the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog and was named a Disney Legend in 2011. She starred as Lorrell Robinson in the Academy Award-winning film Dreamgirls in 2006, with her contribution to the soundtrack earning her a Grammy Award nomination. Rose is also known for her theatre performances, including starring as Emmie Thibodeaux in the 2004 Broadway production of Caroline, or Change, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Additionally, she starred as Beneatha Younger in the 2004 Broadway revival of A Raisin in the Sun, earning a Tony Award nomination.
