André Morell (20 August 1909 – 28 November 1978) was a British male actor whose career spanned theatre, film and television from the 1930s to the 1970s. Born in Saint Pancras, London, he was the son of André and Rosa Mesritz and initially trained as a motor engineer while taking part in amateur productions before turning professional in 1934. He is noted for playing Professor Bernard Quatermass in the BBC serial Quatermass and the Pit (1958–59) and Doctor Watson in Hammer’s The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959). His film work includes appearances in the Academy Award‑winning The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) and Ben‑Hur (1959), as well as several Hammer horror titles in the 1960s and the ITV drama The Caesars (1968).
