Active in films from the 1950s until the 1990s, he amassed forty-one known acting credits. He appeared in numerous Italian films, including Mario Bava's Black Sunday in 1960. Perhaps his best known role was in One Million Years B.C. in 1966, where he played a caveman who fell in love with Raquel Welch, and he was also cast as the male lead in She. His other film appearances included small roles in the remake of The 39 Steps in 1959, an uncredited role as a young man in Tender is the Night in 1962, and On A Clear Day You Can See Forever in 1970 alongside Barbra Streisand. Additionally, he was considered for the role of James Bond, losing out to George Lazenby.
