It’s been five years since I updated my “THIS IS WHAT I DO” highlights reel, and I thought I’d try something a little bit different.
TV is now permanently changed to platform-agnostic video journalism. But what remains the same is that our work is still a team effort.
So I set myself two big challenges when I sat in front of a blank timeline: how can I pay tribute to the incredible teams I’ve worked with, and how can I make this look the best it can be on all platforms and apps?
The answer was simple (as they always say on viral posts):
I decided to make the video square so you can watch it on a big screen, a little screen, a vertical screen or a horizontal screen and still get close to some of the stories I’ve been a part of. I also limited it to three minutes, which meant some tough choices about breadth & depth of more than a decade of eyewitness journalism. I have been standing right there in almost single clip.
I made room for a credit in the bottom right to tell you who filmed what you’re watching and which journalist is saying what you’re hearing. The pictures you can see and the words you listen to may have been produced, guided or even written by me, but they’re a combined effort of the most talented people I get to work with every day. In fact, they’re the most talented people in the world. And I want to tell you who they are.
News isn’t really about the people that bring it to you, but it is about trust. Trust lent to us by the big institutional brand of Sky News, and trust given to us by the people we speak to.
I’ve always loved storytelling, so this is what I do.
