Jesus faced two main types of opposition during His ministry: secular rulers like Herod Antipas and religious leaders who viewed Him as a threat. Despite these challenges, Jesus remained unwavering in His mission, fully aware of His fate in Jerusalem. Religious leaders pretended to care for Jesus’ safety while conspiring against Him, highlighting the irony and complexity of His opposition. The message underscores a Lenten warning not to take God’s grace for granted, emphasizing the importance of repentance and accepting Jesus’ invitation to believe and receive forgiveness, as rejecting Him leads to spiritual loss. This spiritual loss is due to our own unwillingness to receive Jesus and leaving us on the wrong side of His judgment. The good news is that our day of reckoning has not arrived, there is still time to repent, believe, and share His Word.
