Going to Facebook to buy a gun for protection, the tattoo artist received 24 months in prison

According to the indictment, defendant An worked as a tattoo artist in Thu 3 town, An Bien district. At the beginning of December 2022, An went on social network Facebook to buy a roller gun and 9 bullets for 2 million VND, for the purpose of self-defense.

About half a month later, An brought the gun and bullets to the shrimp square area in Bau Lang hamlet, Nam Thai commune, An Bien district and fired 3 test bullets. Two days later, An continued to bring guns and bullets to Mr. Thach Huynh’s house (in Bau Tram hamlet, Nam Yen commune, An Bien district) to resolve conflicts with others.

Here, An took the gun and fired three shots at the ceiling and back door to show off his authority, then got on his motorbike and drove back to the tattoo shop to store the gun and remaining bullets.

By the end of December 2022, An had been discovered by the police, so An voluntarily surrendered 1 gun and 3 bullets.

In conclusion, the gun is a weapon with similar features and effects to military weapons and belongs to the group of military weapons.

Afterwards, An was prosecuted by the Security Investigation Agency and detained for the above crime until the day of trial. An has a previous conviction for intentionally causing injury and was released from prison in 2020, but his criminal record has not been erased.
