Boardmasters Festival has launched Boardmasters Breakthrough, a talent search offering aspiring musicians from south-west England a paid opening slot on the main stage. The winning act, to be announced on May 25, will perform on August 9 in Newquay, Cornwall, joining a lineup that includes Lily Allen and Fatboy Slim.
The Boardmasters Breakthrough initiative targets vocalists, bands, DJs, and artists across all genres and age groups. Organizers have designed the competition to provide regional acts with a high-visibility platform, aiming to shine a light on homegrown talent
by placing them on a major stage in front of tens of thousands of attendees.

The competition is strictly limited by geography. According to the festival website, applicants must be from or based in the South West, as the search is for local talent only

The winning act receives a comprehensive prize package centered on the August 9 performance. Beyond the paid opening slot on the main stage, the winner is granted full weekend access to the festival for themselves and one guest per performer. To assist in future career development, the festival will provide professionally shot footage of the set.
Promotional support extends to digital and industry networking. Winners gain entry to the artist area and will be featured on the Instagram account of Clunk magazine, alongside promotion across official Boardmasters social media channels.
