Ten individuals are set to go on trial in Paris for sexist cyber-harassment of French First Lady Brigitte Macron.
The trial follows a defamation lawsuit filed by her and President Emmanuel Macron in the US at the end of July, related to an online rumor claiming Brigitte was assigned male at birth.
These baseless claims have long targeted the presidential couple, along with criticism of their 24-year age difference.
Eight men and two women, aged 41 to 60, will stand trial in a Paris criminal court on charges of cyber-harassment. If convicted, they could face up to two years in prison.
Prosecutors say the defendants made several malicious comments about the first lady’s gender and sexuality and compared her age gap with her husband to “pedophilia.”
Brigitte filed a complaint in August 2024, prompting an investigation into cyber-harassment, leading to arrests in December 2024 and February 2025.
