Updates and Shoutouts from Thunderbird Director General & Dean, Dr. Charla Griffy-Brown.

This time of year can be difficult for everyone as we are feeling tired and sometimes this season poses challenges so please reach out to someone if you need help or just to talk. I encourage everyone to check in on someone this week just to see how they are doing. I’m so grateful for the care you all show to each other and our incredible students.

Shoutouts

Congratulations to Professor Kannan Ramaswamy for his new article, “How does social identity diversity among boards influence CSR choices? A longitudinal study of Indian corporations,” which has been published in the Asia Journal of Pacific Management! This project, three years in the making, is among the first to systematically analyze the role of caste identity and its role in influencing board decisions.
Shoutout to Professor Booth for representing Thunderbird at the ASU–Cintana Alliance event, “Future-Ready Learning: Aligning Graduate Management Curriculum with Emerging Trends.” The event brought together 282 faculty members from across 10 countries, an important platform that supports our ongoing efforts to expand the Master of Leadership and Management (MLM) program into new markets.
Shoutouts to Professor Roy Nelson for representing Thunderbird and ASU at the Universidad Andres Bello (UNAB) in Santiago, Chile. This was to launch UNAB’s new “International College.” This is a set of 3+1 programs that UNAB will be doing with ASU. They are starting with Thunderbird’s BSIT and also with Computer Science. You can see a couple of pictures here.

Updates

I joined our outstanding weekend of Thunderbird engagement in Mexico City. It was a vibrant networking event with 60 alumni showing up we were able to exceed last year’s raise for Share from this Gala. Special thanks to Susana Esquer, Daniela Monroy, and Maria Houle for the fantastic efforts. The Gala and Fundraiser on November 8 brought together alumni, sponsors, our GCL students from Italika / Grupo Salinas, and guests from over 7 countries to celebrate global connection and support the Thunderbird SHARE Fellowship and the development of future global leaders. I was able to meet with new high-capacity alumni and corporations at this spectacular event.
On Thursday, November 6, Thunderbird hosted a thought-provoking discussion on “Fiscal Sustainability and Economic Diversification: Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030,” featuring Dr. Abdulelah Alrasheedy, Deputy Minister for Macro-Fiscal Policies at the Saudi Ministry of Finance. The event was a great success, with Dr. Alrasheedy shared valuable insights into Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation journey and engaged in a lively Q&A with our students, faculty, and guests. A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who helped make this event possible, from planning and logistics to communications and onsite support. Your teamwork and professionalism continue to elevate Thunderbird’s reputation for hosting globally relevant and high-impact conversations.
KE Corporate Engagement asked me to represent ASU at the Marconi AI Executive Forum in LA where I had the opportunity to speak to executives in Fortune 50 companies and key decision-makers across California regarding the work we are doing to equip leaders and decision-makers to have an impact in our new AI enabled world. This offered a great opportunity to build our brand for future career options for our students, make connections for enrollment growth, and expand our connections for EE.
