Overview

Wallander is a Swedish television series adapted from the Kurt Wallander novels written by Henning Mankell. The series stars Krister Henriksson in the title role as a police officer working in Ystad, a town located near the southern tip of Sweden by the Baltic coast. The production consists of two series, each containing thirteen films. The first series was produced between 2005 and 2006, featuring one film adapted directly from a novel while the remaining stories were based on new concepts suggested by Mankell. The second series was broadcast between 2009 and 2010. Regarding distribution, the films titled Before the Frost, Mastermind, and The Secret premiered in cinemas, while the other entries were initially released as direct-to-DVD movies. In addition to Henriksson, the cast includes Fredrik Gunnarsson, Mats Bergman, and Douglas Johansson. The series was directed by Stephan Apelgren. While the Swedish version features Henriksson, Kenneth Branagh also portrayed the character in a separate production based on the same literary source material.
