Overview

The Sword of Monte Cristo is a film released in the United States on March 3, 1951, classified under the action and adventure genres with a runtime of one hour and twenty minutes. Set in 1858 France, the story follows Emperor Louis Napoleon sending Captain Renault of the Royal Dragoons, Minister La Roche, and Major Nicolet to Normandy to search for members of a rebel group. During a secret meeting of Normandy underground leaders, a Masked Cavalier identified as Lady Christianne, the niece of the Marquis De Montableau, announces that the fabled treasure of Monte Cristo was willed to her and that she will use it to finance their cause. Her uncle, who is the only person able to decipher the symbols on the sword of Monte Cristo as the key to the treasure, derides her stand against the Emperor. Minister La Roche takes possession of the sword, while Captain Renault arrests rebels and secures the sword for the minister, as rebels hunt the treasure to fund their rebellion against the Emperor.
