Overview

The Durrells is a British comedy-drama television series that aired on ITV from 2016 to 2019. The show is loosely based on Gerald Durrell's trilogy of memoirs about his family's time on the Greek island of Corfu. It follows financially strapped widow Louisa Durrell, who, after her husband's death, decides to move with her four children from England to Corfu in 1935. Once there, the family settles into a dilapidated house with no electricity and begins building a new life amidst various challenges and adventures. The series stars Keeley Hawes as Louisa Durrell, alongside Josh O'Connor, Milo Parker, and Daisy Waterstone. It was created by Simon Nye and consists of four seasons. The show explores themes of family, resilience, and adaptation while portraying life in a new country during the 1930s. It is known in North America as The Durrells in Corfu. The program combines elements of comedy and drama while maintaining a TV-PG rating.
