Overview

Suzuran is a television series set in Japan during the early Showa Era. The narrative begins in 1924, a period marked by the emergence of steam engine trains and the establishment of the first train stations in the country. The story centers on a small country location known as Asumoe Station. In the station waiting room, a passenger discovers an abandoned baby and immediately alerts the station master, Tokiwa Jiro. As news of the discovery spreads throughout the local community, the residents and friends of Tokiwa begin to gather at the scene. Many of the townsfolk interpret the arrival of the child as a significant event, suggesting that the baby is a gift. Specifically, members of the community believe that the infant is the reincarnation of Tokiwa’s recently departed wife. The series explores the impact of this discovery on the station master and the surrounding town as they react to the arrival of the child in the midst of the developing railway era.
