Overview

Sonny Boy is an original Japanese anime television series that premiered in July 2021. The production was animated by the studio Madhouse and was written and directed by Shingo Natsume. The series features character designs by Norifumi Kugai, which are based on original designs created by manga artist Hisashi Euguchi. The story begins on August 16 during a summer vacation, when a group of middle school students, including Nagara, Nozomi, Mizuho, and Asakaze, are suddenly transported from their everyday lives to a school adrift in an alternate dimension. While attempting to survive in this new environment, the students find that they have been granted various supernatural powers. The series, which concluded its broadcast in October 2021, is noted for its non-traditional approach to storytelling. Rather than focusing solely on major plot events, the narrative frequently shifts to highlight the reactions and experiences of the various characters involved. The Japanese title for the series is written as サニーボーイ.
