Overview

Red Roses is a 2023 television series that explores the intersection of differing social and religious perspectives. The narrative centers on Meryem, a woman who was married at the age of fourteen within an Islamic sect. Meryem is determined to protect her daughter, Zeynep, from being forced into a similar marriage to the grandson of the sect’s sheikh. Assisted by her sister-in-law, who previously belonged to the sect, Meryem recognizes that she must escape the organization to secure her daughter's future. While concealing her intentions from her husband, Meryem begins working as a carer for Levent, a secular psychiatrist. Levent agrees to assist Meryem in her efforts to save Zeynep from the influence of the powerful sect. As they navigate their opposing religious and progressive worldviews, Meryem and Levent find themselves drawn to one another. The series documents their collaborative struggle against the constraints imposed by the sect as Meryem fights to change the trajectory of her daughter's life.
