Overview

Red Roses is a 2023 television drama series that explores the complex lives of individuals navigating conflicting societal values. The narrative centers on Meryem, a woman who was married at the age of fourteen within an Islamic sect. Meryem is determined to protect her daughter, Zeynep, from a similar fate as the intended bride of the sheikh’s grandson. With the guidance of her sister-in-law, who is a former member of the sect, Meryem recognizes that they must escape the group’s influence. To secure their future, Meryem hides her intentions from her husband and begins working as a carer in the household of Levent, a secular psychiatrist. Levent agrees to assist Meryem in her efforts to save Zeynep. Despite holding opposing religious and progressive beliefs, Meryem and Levent find themselves drawn to one another as they navigate these difficult circumstances. The series documents their struggle against the powerful reach of the sect while highlighting the personal risks Meryem takes to ensure her daughter’s freedom and safety.
