Raffles is a 1939 American crime comedy film that is one of several film adaptations of an 1899 short story collection by E. W. Hornung, The Amateur Cracksman. The film stars David Niven and Olivia de Havilland and is directed by Sam Wood and William Wyler. Man about town and First Class cricketer A.J. Raffles keeps himself solvent with daring robberies. The movie follows Raffles as he meets Gwen from his schooldays and falls in love all over again, spending the weekend with her parents, Lord and Lady Melrose. A necklace presents an irresistible temptation, but also in attendance is Scotland Yard's finest, who are finally on the trail. The film is classified as an adventure, comedy, and crime movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 12 minutes. It was released in the US on December 29, 1939.
