Overview

Princess Mononoke is a 1997 Japanese animated historical fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The story is set during the Muromachi period of Japanese history. The narrative follows Ashitaka, a young prince of the Emishi people, who is afflicted by a deadly curse after encountering a demonized boar god. To find a cure for his cursed arm, Ashitaka leaves his home and journeys to the west. During his travels, he becomes embroiled in a conflict between the forest of the gods and an iron town. He encounters San, a young woman raised by wolves who is fighting to protect the forest, and Lady Eboshi, who is attempting to destroy it. As a warrior caught between these opposing forces, Ashitaka must seek a way to bring balance to the environment and the humans involved in the struggle. The film features the voice talents of Yoji Matsuda, Yuriko Ishida, Yuko Tanaka, and Kaoru Kobayashi.
