Overview
Pioneer is a 2013 Norwegian thriller film directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg. The film is set during the early 1980s at the start of the Norwegian Oil Boom, a period defined by the discovery of significant oil and gas deposits in the North Sea. Authorities seek to transport these resources to land by constructing a pipeline at depths of 500 meters. The story follows Petter, a professional diver who possesses the strength, discipline, and courage required for this dangerous mission. Driven by an obsession to reach the bottom of the Norwegian Sea, he takes on the task. However, a sudden and tragic accident alters the course of the operation. Petter subsequently finds himself on a perilous journey where he struggles to identify those in control. As the situation unfolds, he realizes that he is in over his head. The film was released on August 30, 2013, and was featured in the Special Presentation section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. It has a runtime of one hour and 46 minutes.
