Overview

Paint It Black is a 2016 American drama film directed by Amber Tamblyn and co-written with Ed Dougherty, based on Janet Fitch's 2006 novel of the same name. The movie premiered at the 2016 LA Film Festival. The story centers on the death of a young artist named Michael and how his suicide affects the two women he loved, his girlfriend and his mother. Both women blame each other for his death and for the tragedy, and the girlfriend attempts to deal with the loss while continuously confronted by his mentally unstable mother. Joined by their mutual grief, the two women are soon drawn into a twisted relationship. The film has a runtime of one hour and thirty-six minutes and was released in the United States on June third, 2016. The cast includes Janet McTeer, Alia Shawkat, Emily Rios, and Mish Way.
