Otogi Zoshi: The Legend of Magatama is a television series set in 972 A.D. within Kyoto, the capital of ancient Japan. During this period, the city faces significant turmoil characterized by corruption, famine, and widespread disease. The political landscape is dominated by selfish samurai and onmyoji who prioritize the acquisition of power. Faced with these dire conditions, the Imperial Court commissions the famous samurai Minamoto no Raiko to retrieve a legendary gem. This artifact is believed to possess mysterious powers capable of saving the world. Raiko is selected for this mission primarily due to his renowned archery skills. However, the mission is complicated when Raiko falls ill to the disease plaguing the city. In response to her brother's inability to fulfill the assignment, his youngest sister, Hikaru, decides to take action. The narrative follows these events as the characters attempt to address the collapse of their society and secure the survival of the capital through the recovery of the ancient relic.
