Overview

One Outs is a 2008 television series featuring animation and drama. The story begins when Hiromichi Kojima, the star batter of the Lycaons, travels to the southern Japanese island of Okinawa to train and search for a new pitcher for the team. While there, Kojima encounters Toa Tokuchi, who is described as a 134-kilometer-per-hour pitcher and the undisputed king of a gambling form of baseball known as One Outs. At Kojuchi urging, Tokuchi agrees to join the Lycaons. He signs an unusual contract with the team under which he earns 5,000,000 yen for every out he pitches, but stands to lose 50,000,000 yen for every point he gives up. This sets up a high-level psychological game involving baseball, logic, and gambling. The television series spans the years 2008 through 2009. The underlying property originates from a Japanese baseball-themed manga series written and illustrated by Shinobu Kaitani, which was serialized from 1998 to 2006 and followed by a sequel from 2008 to 2009.
