Overview

Oishinbo is a Japanese anime television series that premiered in 1988, based on the manga series of the same name written by Tetsu Kariya and illustrated by Akira Hanasaki. The television series falls into the animation and drama genres. The plot centers on the newspaper office, Tozai Shinbun, which plans to publish the Ultimate Menu to commemorate their one hundredth anniversary. The project is intended not only to describe foods, but also to pass on dietary cultures for many generations to come. Despite the importance of the project, a lazy employee named Shirou Yamaoka, who is also described as a cynical food critic, and a company newcomer named Yuuko Kurita are selected as the editors. Yamaoka works for the newspaper, which is also referred to as Touzai Shimbun, and the creation of the Ultimate Menu is tasked by the newspaper's owner.
