In the second episode of the first season of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, titled Master, the protagonist Rudy begins his formal education. Having been reincarnated into a new world as an infant following his death in his previous life, Rudy is determined to make the most of his second chance. To this end, he begins training under a new magic tutor. Simultaneously, he starts learning the art of swordsmanship from his father.

Rudy demonstrates significant aptitude for these disciplines, making rapid progress in his studies. Despite his academic and physical advancement, he continues to struggle with the psychological weight of his past. Traumatic memories from his previous life as a 34-year-old underachiever persist, manifesting as a deep-seated fear that prevents him from venturing outside his home. This internal conflict creates a barrier to his development, raising questions about whether his efforts to live a better life are destined to fail. As he balances his newfound skills with his lingering anxieties, the episode explores the tension between his desire to seize new opportunities and the lingering trauma that threatens to impede his progress.
