Magic Knight Rayearth is a Japanese animated television series that premiered in 1994. The show follows three middle school girls who are transported to another world during what begins as an ordinary field trip to Tokyo Tower. Once in this alternate realm, the girls discover they have been chosen to fulfill a important mission. They must undertake the task of saving the princess of this other world in order to find their way back home. The series was produced by Studio Pierrot and is based on the manga series of the same name created by CLAMP. The anime adaptation maintains the core premise of the original source material, focusing on the adventures of the three protagonists as they navigate their unexpected circumstances.
