Lascars is a French animated television series created by Boris Dolivet, also known as El Diablo. The program first aired on the French channel Canal Plus in 1998. The series consists of two seasons, with the first season premiering in 1998 and the second following in 2007. The narrative follows the mishaps of young men living in a district and is characterized by its focus on hip-hop culture. A notable feature of the production is that the majority of the voice cast consists of French rappers. Beyond the two seasons of shorts, the Lascars project expanded to include a pilot for a 20-minute series, a comic book, and a feature film. In Canada, the shorts were broadcast on the network Teletoon under the English title Homiez. The series remains a documented example of French animation that integrates urban culture through its storytelling and casting choices, maintaining a consistent thematic focus across its various iterations and media formats throughout its multi-year production history.
