Overview

Kaiju No. 8 is a 2024 Japanese animated television series produced by Production I.G. The show is set in a world where monstrous creatures known as Kaiju regularly attack human settlements. It follows Kafka Hibino, who once dreamed of joining The Defense Force to fight these beasts alongside his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Although their paths diverge over time, Kafka's resolve is reignited after meeting Reno Ichikawa, a determined individual aiming to enlist in the military. This encounter prompts Kafka to revisit his earlier ambitions and recommit to protecting humanity. The series is an adaptation of the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto, which was serialized on Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ platform. The first season aired from April to June 2024 and was simultaneously broadcast in Japan. The term "kaiju" originates from Japanese film and media, denoting a subgenre of monster films known as kaiju eiga.
