Overview
Higurashi: When They Cry is a Japanese anime television series produced by Studio Deen and directed by Chiaki Kon. The show follows Keiichi Maebara, a young boy who moves to the rural village of Hinamizawa and initially enjoys a peaceful life with his new friends. As he becomes more involved with the community, Keiichi encounters unsettling secrets and violent incidents that reveal the darker side of the town and its residents. The series was created by Toshifumi Kawase and Ryukishi07 and features voice performances by Sôichirô Hoshi, Mai Nakahara, Satsuki Yukino, and Yukari Tamura. It originally aired in 2006, with a second season following in 2007, and an OVA adaptation released in 2009.
