It is the last of fourteen films starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Doctor Watson. The mystery, crime, and thriller feature has a run time of one hour and twelve minutes, and was released in the United States on May 24, 1946. The plot of the film follows a convicted thief in Dartmoor prison who hides the location of the stolen Bank of England printing plates inside three music boxes. When the innocent purchasers of the boxes start to be murdered, Holmes and Watson investigate the crimes.
