DearS 2004

Overview

DearS is a 2004 television series centered on the arrival of extraterrestrial beings in Japan. One year prior to the start of the narrative, a spacecraft carrying 150 aliens crash-landed off the coast of Kasai. Unable to repair the vessel, the Japanese government officially designated the survivors as DearS and granted them status as Japanese citizens. The plot follows a high school student named Takeya Ikuhara, who harbors a deep distrust toward the alien population and prefers to avoid them entirely. His circumstances change when a truck transporting a capsule containing one of the aliens accidentally drops it into a riverbank. The alien is released from her confinement and subsequently discovered by Takeya. Despite his initial reluctance and prejudice, Takeya saves the alien. Upon being given the name Ren, she imprints upon him. The series explores the resulting relationship between the two characters as they navigate the consequences of this encounter and the integration of the extraterrestrial visitors into society.
