Overview

Cars is a 2006 American computer-animated sports comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Directed by John Lasseter, who also served as a co-writer, the film is set in a world populated entirely by anthropomorphic cars and other vehicles. The story follows a hotshot rookie race car named Lightning McQueen who is traveling across the country to compete in the Piston Cup Championship in California. During his journey, he becomes unexpectedly detoured in the sleepy town of Radiator Springs. While stranded in this rundown location, McQueen interacts with the town’s offbeat characters and discovers that life is about the journey rather than the finish line. The production featured an ensemble voice cast including Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt, and Larry the Cable Guy. According to John Lasseter, the project required more research than any other film at Pixar to date, involving the creation of an unprecedented number of original graphics for the world of the film.
