Yonfan is a Hong Kong film director and photographer born in Wuhan, Hubei, Republic of China, on October 14, 1947. After the Yang family emigrated from mainland China, they lived in Hong Kong for three years before moving to Taiwan when Yonfan was five years old. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Taichung, Taiwan, returning to Hong Kong in 1964 at the age of seventeen to work as a photographer. In 1968, he left for the United States to study film. Following a period of travel through the United States, France, and Britain, he returned to Hong Kong in 1973 and established himself as a photographer recognized for his celebrity portraits.
