Tom Hooper is a British-Australian filmmaker born on October 5, 1972. He began making short films as a teenager and had his first professional short, Painted Faces, broadcast on Channel 4 in 1992. Hooper directed plays and television commercials at Oxford University. After graduating, he directed episodes of various British television shows, including Quayside, Byker Grove, EastEnders, and Cold Feet. Hooper made his feature film debut with Red Dust in 2004. He has also directed major BBC costume dramas, including Love in a Cold Climate and Daniel Deronda, as well as the 2003 revival of ITV's Prime Suspect series.
