He is the singer and guitarist for the punk rock band Rancid and the hip hop and punk rock supergroup Transplants. Before forming Rancid, Armstrong was a member of the ska punk band Operation Ivy. In 1997, he co-founded Hellcat Records alongside Brett Gurewitz of the band Bad Religion and owner of Epitaph Records. In 2012, Armstrong began releasing music that influenced him as well as stripped-down cover songs through his website under the name Tim Timebomb. He also works as a songwriter for other artists.
