Terence Henry Stamp was an English actor, director, and writer who was born in Stepney, London, England, on July 22, 1938, and died on August 17, 2025. After training at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London, he began his acting career in 1962. His film debut in the title role of Billy Budd earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor and a BAFTA nomination for Best Newcomer. The Guardian has referred to him as the master of the brooding silence. Associated with the Swinging London scene of the 1960s, he had high-profile relationships with actress Julie Christie and supermodel Jean Shrimpton, and was photographed by David Bailey for a set titled Box of Pin-Ups.
