Kim Tae-yeon, also known as Taeyeon, is a South Korean singer and actress born on March 9, 1989, in Jeonju, North Jeolla, South Korea. Believing early on that singing was her only talent, she began taking voice lessons while in middle school through a school affiliated with the music firm S.M. Entertainment. After winning a student talent competition in 2004, she signed a contract with S.M. Following training in music and stagecraft, she joined the all-female pop group Girls' Generation in 2007.
