Suzanne Shepherd was an American actress and theater director born on October 31, 1934, in the United States. She was best known for her film and television roles, including portraying Karen's overbearing mother in the film Goodfellas, Carmela Soprano's mother Mary De Angelis in the HBO television series The Sopranos, and the assistant school principal in Uncle Buck. She studied acting with Sanford Meisner and later taught Meisner's program of acting study, becoming the first woman to do so. In the early 1960s, she was a founding member of the Compass Players, alongside actors such as Alan Alda and Alan Arkin. Suzanne Shepherd passed away on November 17, 2023, at the age of 89.
