A native of Southwest Philadelphia, he began singing at the age of eight with the Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale. He attended the Creative and Performing Arts High School in South Philadelphia, where he met fellow members of the vocal group originally called Unique Attraction, which became Boyz II Men. In addition to Boyz II Men, Stockman was a member of the group Black Men United. He also served as a judge on the NBC television show The Sing-Off for five seasons from 2009 to 2014.
