Overview

The Hollywood Squares revival television series debuted on September 14, 1998. Hosted by Tom Bergeron, the program features contestants who attempt to win spaces in a tic-tac-toe game by guessing the correctness of answers provided by celebrities. Whoopi Goldberg served as the permanent center square and also held production duties for the series. The panel included regular participants such as series head writer Bruce Vilanch, Gilbert Gottfried, Martin Mull, and Caroline Rhea. Semi-regular panelists included Brad Garrett, Bobcat Goldthwait, Jeffrey Tambor, George Wallace, and Kathy Griffin. Shadoe Stevens returned to the program to serve as the announcer, although he did not occupy a square on the panel as he had during the tenure of host John Davidson. This incarnation of the game show aired from 1998 until 2004. The series utilized a unique episode numbering system compared to many other game show productions. Various guests appeared on the program, including Patrick Swayze and Robert Wuhl.
