Biography
Whoopi Goldberg, born Caryn Elaine Johnson on November 13, 1955, is an American actress and comedian. She gained widespread recognition for her film debut as Celie in The Color Purple (1985), which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and a Golden Globe. Her performance as Oda Mae Brown in Ghost (1990) won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and a second Golden Globe. She later starred in the Sister Act films and voiced Shenzi in The Lion King. Goldberg is also known for her work on The View and is one of the few entertainers to achieve EGOT status, holding an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
