Salma Valgarma Hayek Pinault is a Mexican and American actress and film producer born on September 2, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. She began her career in Mexico, starring in the telenovela Teresa from 1989 to 1991 and in the romantic drama Midaq Alley in 1995. Transitioning to Hollywood, Hayek appeared in Desperado (1995), From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West (1999) and Dogma (1999). Her portrayal of painter Frida Kahlo in the biopic Frida (2002), a film she also produced, made her the first Mexican actress nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. In later years she emphasized producing while acting in action‑oriented films such as Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003) and After the Sunset (2004). She is also known as Salma Valgarma Hayek Jiménez.
