Roger Rees was a Welsh-American actor and director born in Aberystwyth, Wales, on May 5, 1944. He passed away on July 10, 2015, at the age of 71. He was one of the two sons of police officer William Rees and his wife Doris, a saleswoman. During his youth, his family moved to London, where he began acting in local church theatrical performances. Initially training as a painter, he attended the Camberwell College of Arts and the Slade School of Fine Art. He painted scenery at the Wimbledon Theater before becoming an actor there in 1965. Throughout his career, he was known for his work in television, film, and theater, including appearances in the American television sitcom Cheers and the dramatic series The West Wing, as well as Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, The Prestige, and Submissions Only.
