His acting career began in the late 1980s with guest appearances on television programs including Murder, She Wrote, Matlock, and The Flash. From 1986 to 1988, he gained recognition for his portrayal of Chad Rollo on the soap opera Another World. In 1995, Burgi joined the cast of the primetime soap opera Melrose Place, where he played the character of Kyle McBride.
