Philip John
Biography
Philip John is a Welsh writer and director and the managing director of his own production company, Orange River Ltd, which is named after the River Ebbw. Before his career in film and television, he was a bass player with the DIY punk band Reptile Ranch, leaving the music business after a busking trip to Paris with a rhythm and kazoo outfit performing Motown numbers. His postgraduate short film, Suckerfish, received a BAFTA nomination. He also earned two Best Director BAFTA nominations for his work on the television series Being Human. His television and film credits include Downton Abbey, Outlander, the comedy Wedding Belles by Irvine Welsh and Dean Cavanagh, and the movie Moon Dogs, which premiered at the EIFF.
