Noé Hernández Álvarez was born on November 10, 1969, in Atitalaquía, Hidalgo, Mexico, as the son of peasant parents. He studied Dramatic Arts at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, graduating in 1994. After graduation, he worked as a high school teacher in Toluca for seven years while founding an experimental theater group, and later relocated to Mexico City to pursue a film acting career. Following years of attending casting calls, he secured a commercial contract. His first lead role was Lino Valdez in Miss Bala, which brought him popular recognition and a nomination for an Ariel Award for Best Actor. He is also known for his work in Narcos: Mexico, Run Coyote Run, and La Reina del Sur.
